What are face masks and why should you use them?
Face masks are concentrated skincare products that come in various forms: sheet masks, clay masks, creams, or gels. They are designed to be applied to the face for a certain period to allow the skin to better absorb concentrated active ingredients. These active ingredients are usually intended to address specific skin concerns such as dryness, oiliness, sensitivity, or uneven skin tone. Face masks provide more intensive care than regular skincare products because their active ingredients penetrate deeply and effectively into the skin, creating a barrier. Therefore, it is worth using face masks because the higher dose of active ingredients leads to more noticeable results.
When to use face masks?
Face masks should be used after cleansing and toning the skin, but before moisturizing (serums and creams), as impurities and other products can prevent the mask's active ingredients from penetrating the skin. Face masks can be used 1-3 times a week, depending on skin type and the mask's purpose.
Procedure
Cleansing: Thoroughly cleanse your face using a cleanser to remove all impurities, oil, and makeup.
Toning (optional): Using a toner can help balance the skin's pH and prepare it for the mask.
Mask application: Apply the mask evenly to your face, avoiding the eye and lip area, unless the mask is suitable for these areas. Leave the mask on for 5-20 minutes or as directed on the product packaging. Then gently rinse the mask off with lukewarm water.
Further care: After rinsing off the mask, continue with your usual skincare routine, using a face serum, moisturizer, and eye cream.
Frequency of use
For oily or acne-prone skin, face masks can be used 2-3 times a week to help control oil production and unclog pores.
For dry or sensitive skin, it is recommended to use masks 1-2 times a week and choose masks with moisturizing or soothing ingredients.
For normal skin, use masks 1-2 times a week to maintain healthy skin.
Sheet face masks
Sheet face masks are made from thin sheets of fabric, usually cotton, bio-cellulose, or hydrogel. These fabrics ensure moisture control and thus help the product to spread evenly. These masks are soaked in highly concentrated serums containing vitamins, minerals, and other ingredients that help address specific skin problems. Thus, sheet face masks have various purposes: moisturizing, soothing, brightening, and pore-cleansing.
